To be eligible for the awards, entrepreneurs must have five or fewer employees, have owned the business for at least two years, and have demonstrated involvement in their communities.
A panel of judges will select seven award recipients and the eighth recipient will be selected by the community through an online voting process on the INCREASE website.
Judges this year are Jerry King of ABBA Enterprises; Somers Martin of the Columbus Chamber of Commerce; Tiffany Odutoye of Virtual Partner LLC; and Barry Peel of the U.S. Small Business Administration Columbus District Office.
“The caliber of microbusiness owners that participated in the process was excellent and, I believe, showcases the entrepreneurial spirit in that space,” says Martin.
Applicants were judged on their achievements and successes, business growth, community involvement, and professionalism.
Online voting began April 29 and will end on May 10. The nominee who receives the most online votes will receive an award in the Community Choice category.
The Micro Entrepreneur Awards ceremony will be held May 23 at Columbus Christian Center Church at 2300 N. Cassady Ave. A networking reception kicks off the event at 5 p.m. The awards ceremony begins at 6:30 p.m.
